A cloud data-security startup had sophisticated technology but no brand and no product interface. In two months I designed the identity, the web application, and the mobile app, and helped them raise their first round.
Cyral could secure data in the cloud, but investors and customers could not see it. The job was to design a full, intuitive interface, and a brand to carry it, that made a complex security product obvious in a demo, without compromising quality under a tight deadline and a looming funding round.
A visual language and guidelines that made a serious security product feel approachable.
The dashboard for monitoring wrappers, response times, alerts, and diagnostics.
A companion app for wrapper status at a glance, on the go.
Everything polished and deployed in time for the pitch and funding round.
Cyral needed an identity as considered as its security. I designed a minimal owl, wise and watchful, built on a geometric grid, and delivered it as a full standards system: clear-space rules, a five-color palette, and Open Sans type, so the brand held together from the product to the pitch deck.
Cyral’s technology places wrappers between applications and databases to inspect and log every data request as it happens. The dashboard had to make that legible at a glance: which wrappers are up, how fast they respond, and which are down and need attention, so a security team could act in seconds.
Before the screens, I mapped the whole product: dashboard, performance, delivery, security, account, and configuration, each with its own analytics and alerts, so a technical user always knew where they were.
A companion mobile app put the essentials in a pocket: wrappers active, inactive, and an overload warning when traffic spikes, plus collectors, suggestions, and a triage list of what to debug, with one-tap install.
Mapped layout and flow, iterating quickly on feedback.
Clear navigation, intuitive interactions, responsive layouts.
The Data Source Wrapper and App Agent interfaces for real-time inspection.
Usability testing, with logging kept async so performance held.
Polished, on-brand, and deployed for the investor presentation.
Users and stakeholders praised the interface as intuitive and easy to use, exactly what a demo needs.
A polished, professional brand and product helped establish Cyral as a credible player in cloud data security.
For a pre-funding startup, the interface is the proof. A clear, confident UI let investors see the value the technology promised.
A friendly, confident brand made a serious security product feel human. Personality, used well, is a business asset, not a distraction.
